POL (ex-MATIC)

POL (POL) is the native asset of the Polygon ecosystem, the successor to MATIC through a one-to-one migration, and it pays gas and secures staking across Polygon's networks. Its design ambition is to be a single restakeable token: validators stake POL once and can help secure multiple Polygon chains simultaneously, the coordination layer behind the project's AggLayer effort to knit liquidity across L2s into a unified interoperable surface.

The bull and bear case for POL

The bull case rests on Polygon's installed base of applications, enterprise integrations, and a zero-knowledge roadmap that positions it for scalable, low-cost settlement anchored to Ethereum. The bear case is crowding: the L2 field is dense and margins on transaction fees compress as competitors multiply, the MATIC-to-POL rebrand did not by itself unlock new demand, and the multi-chain security thesis only accrues value if those chains attract meaningful activity.
