Mantle (MNT) is the native token of Mantle, an Ethereum Layer 2 network wrapped inside a broader financial ecosystem that spans a modular rollup, liquid staking, wrapped bitcoin, and on-chain investment products.

More than an L2: mETH, FBTC, and on-chain funds

At its base Mantle is a rollup that settles to Ethereum while offloading data availability to a modular design, lowering costs versus executing on mainnet. But the project is unusually product-led for an L2: alongside the network sit mETH, a liquid-staking token for ETH; Function's FBTC, a wrapped bitcoin; and index-style on-chain funds. The stated aim is a single platform bridging traditional and decentralized finance rather than a bare execution layer.

MNT serves as gas on the network and as the governance token across the ecosystem, and can be staked. Bears note that L2 competition is brutal, that MNT's link between ecosystem success and token value is indirect, and that sequencer centralization and reliance on a modular data-availability layer carry the usual rollup risks.
